On Friday, July 17 we began our five week shooting schedule for the feature film – smalltown. The film involves mostly actors from the Rhode Island Film Collaborative and uses crew from Massachusetts and Rhode Island. We are occupying a massive warehouse in New Bedford.

We began production by shooting a brutal fight between children. These pictures are all still captures from the Red and can give you an idea of the quality of the picture (of course, these are compressed files and have not been color corrected)

Staging a fight between children was maybe not the best idea for a first day, but the kids were great and we made it out alive.

On day two we shot our incredible steadycam opening shot and then moved on to film Krystle Spoon as the innocent and scared prostitute, Cathy. Krystle is a very sweet person and excellent singer. You can hear more about her at krystlespoon.com. I enjoyed doing my best to corrupt her with my filthy, filthy movie.

Day Three we shot a scene involving our hero Logan and the Nowhere Men. The day culminated in an amazing slow-motion scene of Jon Jacobs stealing a baby carriage. A highlight was getting Austin, our fourteen year old PA to jump in as a Nowhere Boy and shout some profanity.

Day four we were almost rained out but made half our day by shooting at the Shawmut Diner in New Bedford.

Our crew is incredible and the Red footage from David Kruta and Jeff Melanson of Enki Studios looks amazing. I would love to post more but I have to go to bed to get ready for day five.

Stay tuned for a trailer in a few days or so.
